Episode 1 Review - Pilot
Chilling, hair-raising and full of
Thriller, The Following the premiere, gave everything it could for a
Thrilling start of the show. This show will make you jump with its twisting storyline and terrifying moments. Episode one had an
Intensified ending with an exchange between Ryan Hardy and Carroll that
left audience convinced that there is more to come.
At the start of the episode, Carroll,
dressed in a guard's uniform managed to escape from prison. Ryan was
contacted immediately as he knew Carroll from the past.
Carroll leaves a note for Ryan in his
Book,
“ I enjoyed your book, have you ever
considered a sequel? “ Ryan then teams up with FBI.
A minute later, the firmness of
Carroll's domination started to unveil. One of Carroll's groupie,
stripped herself to underwear in front of them, only covered in words
“ Lord help my poor soul ”, stabs her eyes. Soon they found out that she got a text saying, Do it Now.
Carroll's past is shown in flashbacks before his arrest. He is in a classroom, teaching Poe to the class. Among all the students, Sarah
is the one who had a lucky escape because Ryan saved her. She was
Carroll's incomplete job just like lighthouse was an incomplete work of
Poe`s. Ryan purses Sarah's high pitch cry and takes him to the
Lighthouse where he finds that Carroll has already killed her. Ryan
and FBI captures him after he surrendered there.
The past of Carroll and Ryan is shown, both having something in
common, a love interest, Carroll`s ex wife, Claire Mathews. She
becomes the only topic when in the interrogation after Carroll is
arrested second time he explains that Sarah was meant to die and
tells Ryan that he is a flawed hero. He asks if Ryan has any friends
and he will be his friend even though he slept with his Carroll`s
wife.
Hence, The following turns out to be one of the darkest show, having
some serious violence scenes. The pilot of The following was flawless
in my opinion.
